Do I need a license from PPL or PRS for Music?
The Virtual Jukebox is a service provided by Jukestream Limited. Whilst Jukestream is licensed to provide the streaming music service by PPL and PRS for Music, it is your responsibility to ensure that you are correctly licensed to use our music service in your venue.
As your jukebox operator we will collect the relevant public performance fees due from you on PPL's behalf (currently £138.09 per year). Providing this is the sole music service in your venue no other license is required from PPL.
You will need to ensure the correct license is in place from PRS for Music to play a digital music service in your venue. If you play recorded music already, your existing license may already cover this. Please contact PRS For Music to confirm this or to obtain the relevant license.
To contact PPL please visit www.ppluk.com or contact 020 7534 1000.
To contact PRS for Music please visit www.prsformusic.com or contact 020 7580 5544.
How will my customers be charged?
Your customers will be charged 50p (inc VAT) plus their standard network rate for every successful request. The charge will be deducted from their mobile phone credit or next telephone bill.
How will I receive my revenue?
After paying the phone operator we'll split our revenue 50:50 with you. That's 14p inc VAT (12p exc VAT) for you for every successful request. Claimed earnings will be credited against your monthly invoice, payments will be made directly into your bank account.
How do I connect the player to my stereo system?
Your internet radio player will connect to your existing hi-fi or sound system with standard RCA connector leads, or 3.5mm connector leads.
How fast does my internet connection need to be?
Due to the nature of our service, a reliable broadband connection is required. We recommend a broadband connection with a low contention ratio and a minimum of 1Mbps (megabits per second) download speed. Click to test your connection speed.
By default our service streams at a rate of 64kbps (kilobits per second), if used for 12 hours a day this would consume approximately 10GB (gigabytes) of data over the period of a month. It is your responsibility to ensure that an adequate package is in place from your ISP (Internet Service Provider) to cover the additional data transfer. Jukestream cannot be held responsible for any additional charges or blocks put in place from your ISP as a result of using our service.
How does the player connect to the internet?
Your internet radio player will connect to the internet with either a wireless (Wi-Fi) or wired LAN broadband internet connection.
If your wireless network is configured to use Wired Equivalent Privacy (WEP), or Wi-Fi Protected Access (WPA or WPA2) data encryption, you will need to know WEP or WPA code in order to allow the player to connect to your wireless network.
If your internet connection uses a paywall or firewall, your service provider may need to grant the internet radio player access to the internet.
I'm behind a firewall, what ports will need to be open?
The internet radio player will need access to the following UDP and TCP ports to function correctly; 80, 554, 1755, 5000, 7070 and 8000.
What if my internet is switched off or broken?
Your customers will receive a message back informing them that they are unable to request music at this time, they will only be charged the cost of a standard message.
What if a customer requests an inappropriate genre or song with explicit lyrics?
You can easily choose to filter particular genres, or tracks and and can choose whether or not to play music with explicit lyrics from within your online control panel.
